Angeles Nieto
Ángeles Nieto, born in Madrid in 1963, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht. This was her second degree after completing Art History at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. In her graduation year, she was nominated for the Academy Prize, and a year later, in 1994, she was named “Talent of the Year” in Amsterdam. At Pulchri Studio in The Hague, she received the honorary award of the “Javaanse Jongens Graphic Art Prize.” This recognition was followed by publications in leading magazines such as *Art View* and *Blad*. She creates her work as a playful process, a conversation between what has been painted and what is yet to be painted, always seeking balance. Ángeles says, “We are stardust (matter) from the stars. That’s the foundational idea of my work. Our bodies are made of the same matter, as is our spiritual life. We are part of the universe; we are stars too. Stars (celestial bodies), the dream world, or the ability to fly as an expression of freedom often recur in my imagery.” Over the past 25 years, Ángeles has created numerous commissioned graphic editions for clients such as Philips (Eindhoven), ABP (Heerlen), BührmannUbbens (Zutphen), the Red Cross (Amsterdam), and Imtech (Amersfoort). In January-February 2015, she designed a special graphic work for the organization Trollkohnskoppel in Kiesby, Germany, in response to the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris. Ángeles is a guest lecturer at the Maastricht Academy of Media and Design and also gives lectures on creativity at TU Eindhoven. Her work can be found in collections such as: Philips (Eindhoven); Junkers Bosch (Frankfurt); Siemens (The Hague); Shell (Amsterdam); ABP (Heerlen); the Red Cross (Amsterdam); Takayama Reed Co. (Ishikawa, Japan); Langeland Hospital (Zoetermeer); PricewaterhouseCoopers (Eindhoven); NTS Group (Eindhoven); Technical University (TU) Eindhoven, and Trollkohnskoppel (Kiesby, Germany).
