Carolina Paulussen
Visual artist Carolina Paulussen was born in 1963 in Roosendaal. Growing up in a family of architects and carpenters, she was immersed in creativity and craftsmanship from an early age. Her passion for creating emerged in childhood, initially expressed through works in pastel and conté, but soon evolving into a diverse body of paintings where she freely experimented with various materials and techniques. Now, some 20 years later, Carolina Paulussen is a successful artist known for her remarkable versatility and a rare sensitivity to color. Through unexpected and seemingly contrasting color combinations, she brings energy and dynamism to her paintings. Her work often revolves around classical themes—geishas, fragments of classical buildings, or roses. With delicate brushwork and skillful use of the palette knife, she opens a fascinating emotional landscape rich with possibilities. In her passionate paintings, forms, lines, and colors harmonize into a captivating spectacle. Her color choices lend her work a modern yet subtle elegance. Nearly every piece reveals a striking contrast: the classical, timeless subject presented in a renewed environment of warm reds, vivid blues, and deep browns and purples. A self-taught artist working intuitively and expressively, Carolina Paulussen constantly seeks innovation. Driven by the dynamic flow of painting, she has a unique ability to surprise her audience time and again.
