Casper Faassen
Leiden-based artist Casper Faassen has been working as a freelance artist for about 20 years. In the last 10 years, his photographic work has taken precedence. Themes such as the passage of time, beauty, appearance versus disappearance, and collection are expressed through a now-characteristic subdued handwriting. Using various transparent photographic and painterly layers, Faassen composes his narrative. The works are muted and understated but simultaneously rich in materials and detail. This approach stems from his first 10 years, during which the focus was primarily on painting. His portraits, mainly of women, are recognizable by their bright chalk-like lines. The work of Casper Faassen is exhibited at prestigious international fairs and is included in both private and public collections, such as the Frans Hals Museum, Museum De Lakenhal, and the Hague Historical Museum.
