Giuseppe Lamers

Giuseppe Lamers (1966) is a Dutch sculptor born in Roermond, the Netherlands. Inspired by stories from his parents about their travels through Zimbabwe, he began creating ceramic sculptures in 1993. While his early work showed clear influences from African sculptural traditions, his visual language gradually evolved into a more abstract and timeless form of expression. For Lamers, abstraction offers the freedom to engage the viewer’s imagination. His sculptures do not tell a fixed story; instead, they invite personal interpretation. Themes such as love, security, connection, letting go and transience are recurring elements throughout his work. As the artist himself explains: "The challenge lies in creating an emotion within a sculpture that touches someone so deeply that they remain forever connected to it." Each sculpture is hand-built in clay. After modelling, the work undergoes a careful drying process lasting several weeks before being glazed and fired at temperatures exceeding 1230 degrees Celsius. This intensive process results in durable ceramic sculptures suitable for both indoor and outdoor display. Owing to the handcrafted nature of his practice, every piece is unique. In addition to ceramic works, Lamers' oeuvre also includes bronze sculptures. He frequently combines his sculptures with custom-made Corten steel pedestals, allowing sculpture and base to form a harmonious whole. The warm, weathered tones of the steel enhance the organic forms of his work and create a compelling interplay between material, form and space. Characteristic of Lamers' work are its flowing lines, serene forms and universal themes. His sculptures balance figurative and abstract elements, achieving remarkable emotional impact through a restrained visual language. By stylising human forms, he deliberately leaves room for the viewer's imagination. His figures are not defined by a fixed identity but invite personal reflection and interpretation. Both strong and vulnerable, his sculptures communicate a sense of human connection while embracing the present moment. It is this timeless and deeply human quality that makes his work so widely relatable and meaningful. The work of Giuseppe Lamers is exhibited in renowned galleries and sculpture gardens throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
