Jan Onnekes
Jan Onnekes (born in Haarlem in 1934), initially trained as an architect and urban planner at the Technical University in Delft, discovered his passion for art through drawing. His early landscape drawings evolved into full abstraction. In the 1970s and 1980s, Onnekes began experimenting with this abstract art and during his time at the Vrije Academie The Hague (1999-2012), he developed his unique abstract style, where chance and mood played leading roles. His works, characterized by shapes, colors, and textures, explored the boundaries of creative imagination. "As I paint, I come across something that might be worthwhile, and I try to build on that. I remain in awe of what emerges."
