Fame, beauty, social success, and the inevitable tragedy of the other side—Jörg Döring (1965, Germany) has been influenced for more than three decades by the distinctive characteristics of the Pop Art movement and American culture. Large oil canvases painted like film stills and close-ups, small epoxy works with a playful twist; Döring portrays the American dream and its misfortunes in a whimsical manner. Bright colors, deep shadows, and ambiguous messages make Döring's work as complex as it is accessible. With his recent works, Jörg Döring appeals to the fleeting nature of contemporary society. Much like Andy Warhol, for Döring, these images serve as a starting point, giving his work common ground with American Pop Art. According to Döring, however, this resemblance is only superficial: “There are many stylistic elements from that time, but in fact, it’s new and original material. Unlike classic Pop Art, I don’t just present the image; I add new content—focused on contemporary, even current topics. This way, you get an interesting double layer.” Döring's work is part of numerous prestigious collections and is exhibited worldwide.
