Mikio Watanabe

Mikio Watanabe was born in 1954 in Yokohama, Japan. After studying at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, Watanabe traveled through Europe and settled in Paris. Since 1981, he has devoted himself to Mezzotint, an ancient etching technique that requires immense artistic skill as well as technical expertise. Due to the exceptional precision of his work, viewers often mistake his pieces for photography, even though Watanabe crafts his plates entirely by hand. With his stunningly delicate studies, Mikio Watanabe has gained worldwide recognition. His work is included in some of the most prestigious private and museum collections.
