Paul Baars
Paul Baars (1949) studied design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and at Syracuse University in the United States. After his studies, he worked for two years as a designer at Howell Design in New York City. Since 1975, he has worked as a freelance designer. From this period onwards, he began photographing "street objects" all over the world, such as the series "Numbers" and the series "Manholes/Handholes" (manhole covers). The essence of his work lies in observing and listening carefully to what is visible and audible. It’s about searching for simplicity, the ability to leave things out. Applying or presenting existing objects in a way that is different from their intended purpose. This characterizes the work of Paul Baars.
