Richard Heeps
Richard Heeps was born in Cambridge in 1965, where he continues to live and work. Inspired by the "All-American Dream," Heeps has spent the past 10 years continuously photographing a variety of spontaneous scenes. His subjects are stylish, glamorous, and hedonistic, capturing portraits, interiors, images of burlesque pin-ups, hot rods, dragsters, and customized cars. His photos portray the vibrancy of contemporary scenes influenced by the 1940s and 1950s. None of his images are pre-styled; they are spontaneous captures of the moment, driven by the diversity and natural charm of his models. The deliciously rich, vivid colors make a Richard Heeps photograph uniquely captivating. Heeps is a traditional craftsman. His photos are hand-printed color images, created without the need for digital manipulation. He has mastered a technique to achieve unique color saturation, situating his work within a particular time, place, and culture. This leaves the viewer uncertain about when these photos were actually taken. His work brings together a selection of images that tell the story of the spirit and pursuit of the American Dream. Since 1986, Richard Heeps has exhibited extensively, including shows at The Photographers' Gallery in London, The Spitz Gallery in London, and Kettle's Yard Gallery in Cambridge. His work has received positive reviews in *The Times*, *The Independent*, and *The British Journal of Photography*.
