Ronald Schmets
Photographer Ronald Schmets is an internationally awarded photographer and an artist who pushes the boundaries of photography. He sees himself as a composer, blending modern photographic techniques with classical artistry to create his unique compositions. Projects such as Femina Sancta and Seven Virtues portray ethereal women draped in flowing robes, subtly infused with symbols of virtues like justice, courage, wisdom, faith, and charity. Schmets translates these classical themes into a contemporary Renaissance style, with each image meticulously constructed from dozens to hundreds of shots, achieving perfection in every detail. In his latest project, SKETCHBOOK DIARIES, Schmets offers a rare glimpse into his creative process and artistry, the result of a 25-year journey in pursuit of the ultimate image. SKETCHBOOK DIARIES includes original sketches, contact prints, baryta prints, as well as personal notes, anecdotes, and the creative insights underlying his work. To enhance his vision, he incorporates spontaneous brushstrokes, graphic elements, and collected imagery from magazines and postcards. This project reveals his world as a top photographer in a pure, vulnerable, and impulsive manner, free from digital manipulation and using only authentic materials. In this way, Ronald Schmets builds a bridge between classical painting and modern photography, inviting viewers into his deeply personal and artistic world.
