Theo Koster
Theo Koster (Emmeloord, Netherlands, 1952) trained at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and the Academy of Visual Arts in Arnhem. Even then, his paintings had a landscape-oriented quality, though more subdued than his later work, and he developed a unique visual language that he continues to refine and expand today. A defining feature of his work is the composition: vast skies over land or water with a low horizon, rendered in a contemporary use of vivid colors. His keen sense of color choice and dynamic brushwork create a specific atmosphere in each painting. Additionally, he employs graphic and collage techniques. His playful, narrative paintings exude a sense of calm that brings a natural compositional balance. In his work, Koster explores a theme that resonates with us all: the search for meaning in human existence. Through this process, he connects to his own life and personal engagement, using a symbolic visual language to convey these reflections.
