Christel Delrieu Pétraud – Transversal Identity | Exhibition at Kunsthuis Leiden
Kunsthuis Leiden | September 21 – October 13, 2024
From September 21 through October 13, 2024, Kunsthuis Leiden presented Transversal Identity, a solo exhibition by internationally renowned French artist Christel Delrieu Pétraud. The exhibition opened during Kunstroute Leiden (Leiden Art Route) and featured an exceptional selection of colourful, conceptual paintings in which art, science, and mathematics come together.
Through her distinctive visual language, Delrieu Pétraud explores the relationship between identity, beauty, and reality. Her work is characterised by vibrant colours, geometric structures, and an innovative approach to painting.
Christel Delrieu Pétraud – Where Art and Science Meet
After completing her Fine Arts education, Christel Delrieu Pétraud began her career as an artist, web designer, and graphic designer. During this period, she developed a deep interest in colour theory, digital design, and computer graphics, knowledge that would later play an important role in her artistic development.
Since 2012, she has combined her creative background with a scientific approach to painting. In her work, she explores the concepts of time, space, and matter through mathematical structures and graphic systems.
A distinctive element of her artistic practice is the use of the decimal digits of pi (π) and a self-developed graphic alphabet composed of lines. Through these elements, the artist translates the world around her into abstract, mathematical compositions, revealing structures and connections that would otherwise remain invisible to the human eye.
In 2016, her work received international recognition when she was awarded a gold medal at the Foro Europa of Art in Madrid.
Colourful Paintings and a Distinctive Visual Language
Christel Delrieu Pétraud's artistic practice is characterised by a combination of Neoplasticism, conceptual art, and pop art. Her paintings feature bold colours, geometric patterns, and layered compositions in which figuration and abstraction come together.
Recurring themes in her work include truth, identity, and beauty. Through her expressive portraits, she explores how we perceive ourselves and the world around us.
By combining traditional painting techniques with digital and mathematical principles, Delrieu Pétraud has developed a distinctive artistic language. Her work invites viewers to look beyond the visible and reflect on the relationship between art, science, and human perception.
