In the duo exhibition TRACES at Kunsthuis Leiden, the artistic worlds of Daniël Martin and Santiago Pani come together. Two contemporary artists, each with their own distinctive visual language, share a fascination with abstraction, form, perception, and experimentation.

The exhibition presents a diverse selection of paintings and sculptures, combining traditional techniques with digital innovations such as laser cutting and 3D printing. The result is an intriguing interplay of contrasts, layers, and sculptural forms, where the boundaries between painting and sculpture begin to blur.

On Thursday, May 22, we will celebrate the closing of the duo exhibition TRACES. You are warmly invited to join us for a drink as we celebrate this special collaboration between Daniël Martin and Santiago Pani.

Santiago Pani – Between Figuration and Abstraction

For more than a decade, Santiago Pani has explored the possibilities of portraiture. Throughout this time, he has developed a distinctive and personal visual language in which human faces and abstract forms take centre stage.

In recent years, his work has become increasingly abstract. Pani explores how much visual information is needed to recognise a face and at what point that sense of recognition begins to disappear.

In his latest works, spontaneity and chance play an important role. Loose brushstrokes, blurred forms, and intuitive gestures come together in layered compositions that continuously balance between recognition and abstraction.

Daniël Martin – Where Art and Technology Meet

In his paintings and sculptures, Daniël Martin explores the relationship between perception, form, and reality. Distortion plays a central role in his artistic practice. His artworks resist a single, fixed appearance, inviting viewers to explore them from different perspectives.

Martin combines traditional disciplines such as painting and sculpture with digital techniques, including 3D modelling, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR).

By bringing these worlds together, he creates innovative artworks in which physical and digital forms merge. His work challenges viewers to reconsider what they see and how they experience reality.
