Nick Thomm
Australië
Nick Thomm (1989, Australia) is a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles, with a second studio in Melbourne. He is known for his large-scale spectral paintings and immersive installations in which he explores the relationship between colour, abstract image construction, and contemporary technology. In his practice, Thomm investigates modern colour systems and the ways in which digital image logic has shaped visual perception. His unique works are composed of intensely saturated colour fields and layered structures that reference digital interfaces, spectral scans, and virtual imaging. These one-of-a-kind works are meticulously built up by hand in multiple layers: carefully composed paint and pigment combinations are applied to panel or canvas and often sealed with a high-gloss resin or lacquer finish, enhancing the depth, intensity, and almost luminous quality of the colour field. Alongside his autonomous painting practice, Thomm also produces limited edition prints that occupy a distinct position within his oeuvre. Series such as Aether and Luminance are conceived as time-limited editions, released within a 24-hour window—once the sales period ends, these editions are never reproduced. This model underscores the exclusivity of the prints: they are produced using archival pigment printing on museum-grade paper and are hand-signed and numbered by the artist. Nick Thomm’s work has been exhibited internationally at leading museums and institutions, including the New Museum in New York, the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia, and the Moco Museum in Barcelona. In addition, he has realised large-scale commissions at the intersection of art, design, and technology for clients such as LVMH, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany & Co., as well as major public and architectural projects. By bridging his autonomous practice with large-scale installations, cross-disciplinary collaborations, and curated edition releases, Nick Thomm positions himself within contemporary painting as an artist who redefines colour and abstraction in the age of the digital image.
